Tree Nursery Museum
Boskoop - Centre of the Horticultural Area
Cultural Heritage site ‘Horticultural Area Boskoop’ is situated in the middle of the Green Heart of Holland. Since Count Willem I donated his Buckiscope property to the Abbey of Rijnsburg in 1222, Boskoop has developed to become a special area in the agricultural and horticultural sector. It is now the largest connected horticultural area in the world. The Tree Nursery Museum conserves, shows and passes on this rich history. This not only involves material heritage (grounds, objects, monuments, landscape) but also immaterial heritage (ways of thinking, customs, traditions, stories).
Exhibitions
Permanent exhibitions
In the permanent exhibition you will get a good idea of the tree nursery in the past, present and future. This exhibition tells the origin of Boskoop and the nurseries. Outside you will find a nurseryman's house, an authentic nursery and a shed, all furnished as was customary in 1900. 1900 is the year that the cultivation of trees in favor of floriculture was definitively stopped.
The open-air part of the museum will give you an impression of what the life of a nurseryman’s family was like around 1900. Their small home was built in 1870 and is furnished as it would have been around 1900-1910. The museum nursery is also modelled on a nursery around that time. You can find tools and machinery in the shed.
Temporary exhibitions
Temporary exhibitions focus on topics related to green and culture.
