Nursery museum Boskoop

Boskoop – Centre of the Horticultural Area

Cultural Heritage site ‘Horticultural Area Boskoop’ is situated in the middle of the Green Heart of Holland. Since Count Willem I donated his Buckiscope property to the Abbey of Rijnsburg in 1222, Boskoop has developed to become a special area in the agricultural and horticultural sector. It is now the largest connected horticultural area in the world. The Nursery Museum conserves, shows and passes on this rich history. This not only involves material heritage (grounds, objects, monuments, landscape) but also immaterial heritage (ways of thinking, customs, traditions, stories).
Exhibitions
The permanent exhibition provides an impression of tree nurseries in past and present, centred around the gradual shift from growing fruit trees to ornamental plants. This change was completed around 1900-1910.

Temporary exhibitions focus on topics related to green and culture.

The open-air part of the museum will give you an impression of what the life of a nurseryman’s family was like around 1900. Their small home was built in 1870 and is furnished as it would have been around 1900-1910. The museum nursery is also modelled on a nursery around that time. You can find tools and machinery in the shed.

Next to the shed you will find a presentation about the construction of barges. These barges used to be the main means of transportation for many years.

Visitors
An English brochure is available to guide you through the permanent exhibition and the open-air sections of the museum. From our coffee corner and terrace you will have a beautiful view of our museum nursery. Coffee, tea and soft drinks are available.
